About the Grapes and Wine.
Bendock Estate Pinot Noir is produced exclusively from grapes grown at the Windridge Vineyard located in southwest Oregon. This seven-acre vineyard was established in 1989 with self- rooted plantings of pinot noir. Since acquiring the property in 1998, we use sustainable, site-sensitive farming to fashion wines that express the quality and diversity of the land we steward.
Location and Climate: Windridge Vineyard is located on an alluvial terrace above the Illinois River valley near Cave Junction, Oregon. It is in the SW corner of the Rogue Valley AVA, in the Siskiyou Mountains, at an elevation of 1450 feet. Cool, wet winters and warm dry summers characterize the regional climate, providing optimal conditions for growing Alsacian and Burgundian wine grapes.
Clone Composition: Original Pinot Noir plantings in 1989 consisted of Wadenswil (UCD 2A) and Pommard (UCD4) clones. To enhance the complexity and diversity of the fruit, we added 5 additional clones in 1999. These include: UCD1, UCD 29, Dijon 113, Dijon 115, and Dijon 10/18.
